Prof. Dr. Jan Torgersen

Technical University of Munich

...

Professor Torgersen holds the position of Chair of Materials Science at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). In 2013, Professor Jan Torgersen earned his Doctor of Technical Sciences (Dr. techn.) from TU Wien for his groundbreaking research on high-resolution generative manufacturing of hydrogels designed for biomedical applications.

His interest in nano to mesoscale dynamics led him to Stanford University in 2014, contributing to materials for energy conversion and storage at the Nanoscale Prototyping Laboratory. In 2016, Torgersen became an Associate Professor at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), later appointed as a full Professor in 2020. His research centers on material production and optimization for energy conversion and storage. In 2022, Torgersen joined the Technical University of Munich (TUM), leading an ERC project on optimizing electrode geometries for fuel cells, electrolyzers, and flow batteries. Employing high-resolution 3D printing, the project explores innovative approaches to enhance transport properties within electrodes. He envisions a hydrogen economy, pledging his material science expertise to accelerate progress toward a sustainable future, inspired by a deep sense of responsibility to current and future generations.
